Who else is completely over the Kellen Winslow saga? I know I am, therefore, we must talk about it one last time. By now you know the developments, but it looks like we finally have some closure, but many questions still remain.

Question #1 - If Winslow’s suspension was rescinded and you are trying to win a game with your best players on the field, how do you not fly him to Jacksonville and out him on the field?

The coaches will tell you he wasn’t part of the game play and he wasn’t mentally ready to play, but that’s all B.S. The suspension was lifted Saturday. The Browns played at 4:15 in Florida. He could have easily gotten there and been ready to catch passes, even in a limited role.

Question #2 - Why did Phil Savage essentially say their was a second illness one day, then completely back-track, saying it was ”staph, and staph only” the next?

Could Savage have botched this situation any worse? He suspended Winslow without having all of the facts, then had to rescind the suspension after one of his subordinates text messages showed WInslow was told to hide the infection.

Then, Phil says to the press Sunday night that while everyone is putting this behind them, there was still something missing. ”If there’s going to be disclosure, there’s got to be full disclosure. We were trying to do the right thing by him and his family. I think it’s all in a gray area right now. You can ask him.” This lent even more credence to the rumors about K2 having swollen balls.

As Bill Livingston pointed out in today’s Plain Dealer: If the rumors about Winslow’s illness started in the blogosphere, the Browns should have stepped in and stopped them. But they didn’t.

Finally, Savage out of nowhere steps into Romeo Crennel’s press conference Monday and gives a 29-second soliloquy and says “Once and for all, Kellen’s illness was determined to be a staph infection. He had been in the hospital for two or three days. It takes a couple days to figure out what something is. Secondly, there was no secondary illness. Thirdly, he’s in the building. He’s worked out, the team meets at 1 o’clock. That’s the end of the story. It’s over with. There’s no secondary illness — staph infection. Everybody’s got it, right?”

Which leads us to….

Question #3 - Where is owner Randy Lerner during all of this?

The Browns owner continues to act like he has little interest in owning the team. While every once and a while you hear about how “upset” he is during a game from his box, he literally never makes public appearances and never speaks to the media. He hired Phil Savage to be his GM and when he was about to fire him three years ago to give the power to his non-football man John Collins, the backlash was so great that Collins was the one who moved on.

Collins was the President of the organization. When the Browns were reborn, Carmen Policy was the President. Since Collins’ departure, that job has been left vacant. Can you imagine if King Spin Policy had been in charge of this? It would have gone away in two days. Instead, Savage was in charge and he wet himself.

While Savage is an excellent scout, he is far from the guy who can handle these types of situations. Lerner should know this as everyone in the media certainly does. And if there is no team President to handle a situation like Winslow’s, it’s on Lerner to step in and squash the beef.

Instead, he allowed Savage to throw his coach Romeo Crennel under the bus and take the heat when in actuality, he was caught in the middle. A team President must be hired this offseason or Lerner needs to become more hands on, because Savage’s forte is talent evaluation.

He should stick to it.

Question #4 - Where does this leave Winslow in regards to his future with the Browns?

That is something that will continue to be up in the air. I think there has been irreparable damage done between Savage and Winslow. The handwriting is on the wall. He wants a new contract, the Browns don’t want to give him one. They even traded up in the draft (a #3 next year) to get his replacement, Martin Rucker. While K2 is an incredible talent, his body has been through a serious pounding for a fifth year player. I’d say there is a better chance of Winslow being somewhere else next year rather than in a Browns uniform.

I am officially done talking about this!!!!
