I promised, now I deliver. Here is our one on one interview with the best GM in the NBA, former NBA FInals MVP and hall of famer Joe Dumars of the Detroit Pistons. Joe was gracious enough to answer our questions. He is about the nicest guy you will ever want to meet and a class act from top to bottom. I’ve got to thank him again for taking the time to talk to little ole’ me. And away we go….

TD: What did you do this summer?

Joe Dumars: This summer was a good summer…. Once again, this summer was all about trying to put my team in a position to vie for an NBA Championship “again”

TD: You said after last season that “major changes” were possible with this roster, yet for the most part, you stood pat. What made you decide to stick with this core group?

Joe D: Yes, I did say that I would be open to making a deal if something was presented that made sense….I did not receive what I thought was a deal that would make us better, so I felt very comfortable with coming back with most of my core and adding more of our young talent to the mix

TD: Why Michael Curry over someone with previous head coahcing experience to lead this veteran group?

Joe D: Picking a coach is all about finding the right fit for your team….Michael Curry is the right fit for the Detroit Pistons

TD: You are respected and revered as one for the best GM’s in the business. What separates you from your peers?

Joe D: I respect what a tough job it is to be an NBA GM, so I can’t say that anything seperates me, I just think we have a model for how we do things here in Detroit and we don’t waver…..Winning super-cedes everything else with the Pistons

TD: Lets talk Cavaliers - They acquired Mo Williams this summer and added JJ Hickson and Darnell Jackson in the draft. Why should fans in this city think they will be better than last year?

Joe D: I like what the Cavs did this summer….They added talent, youth and what appears to be good character guys to their team

TD: Talk a little about Mo Williams game from a scouting standpoint.

Joe D: Mo Williams is a shotmaker, playmaker and a guy that takes and makes big shots….That means he’s added another threat for the Cavs and that’s going to make them a better team this season

TD: I assume you watched the US’s men’s Olympic Basketball team. In your eyes, who was the most important player to that team?

Joe D: Lebron James

TD: We know you love watching the college game. This was viewed as one of the deepest drafts in years, where did you stand on the Derrick Rose vs. Michael Beasley debate?

Joe D: Beasley and Rose will be good players in this league….

TD: You took little known Walter Sharpe out of UAB ahead of some bigger name players like Chris Douglas-Roberts, Mario Chalmers, and DeAndre Jordan. What did you see in Sharpe that others may not have?

Joe D: Once again, its all about fit….You don’t go into the draft with the idea that you’re going to draft big names, its all about finding players that fit your culture on and off the court

TD: Now to the fun stuff - Favorite NBA city to visit.

Joe D: New Orleans (It’s home)

TD: Best fans in the NBA , you can’t say your own.

Joe D: Cleveland (smile)

TD: The best restaurant in the country is…..

Joe D: The Red Fish Grille ( New Orleans in the French Quaters)

TD: Barack Obama should be the next President of the United States because…..

Joe D: Because he’s the best candidate for the position

TD: Favorite Non-NBA team you support?

Joe D: The New Orleans Saints
